Welcome to Home & Abroad!

Founded in Fall 2015, Home and Abroad began as an annual global health magazine produced by medical students at UT Southwestern.  It was established to share ideas, inform discussions and inspire action on issues of global health importance.

Our mission is to provide a varied perspective on global health endeavors, initiatives and achievements by the student body, faculty and friends; and to promote ideas, innovations and advancements with medical applications locally and globally.

Our goal was to become a premier literary forum utilizing multidisciplinary approaches to address challenges in global medicine by proving our readers with insightful and accurate information on pertinent global health topics.

This August, we made the decision to shift our focus from primarily a printed publication, to an online forum more accessible to both our colleagues at UT Southwestern and to fellow enthusiasts in the greater global health community.

We hope you find this blog an informative, thought-provoking, enriching environment to learn about and discuss issues in healthcare both at home and abroad, and how we can contribute to bettering our world.

Here you'll find articles of different styles, disciplines, and formats including well-researched informative articles, first-person experiences, interviews, and editorials. While we are primarily student-run and student-written, we also enjoy featuring healthcare professionals from all over the world to share their experiences and expertise in the field of global health.

We hope you will join us on this journey to engage, reflect, pursue, and change healthcare and the lives of people around the world.
